Skimming

: Reading fast and get the main ideas of the article or the reading materials

 

Skimming Reading Strategies:

1. Check the title

2. Check the Visuals

3. Check the subheadings

4. Look for the thesis statement: Read the first 3 sentences of the introduction paragraph.

5. Look for the Toopic sentence: Rad the 1st Sentence of each body paragraph (1st sentence under each subtitle). We call this sentecne the "Topic Sentence." Each topic sentece has the main idea of the paragraph.

6. FInally, you read the conclusion (the whole last paragraph) because it ususally either summarizes or restates the whole article or reading.

 

Hook Sentence

= Usally comes as The fist sentence of the intro to grab the reader's attention, but it will give you a good idea about the field of the genre of the article.

 

Thesis Statement

: The 2nd and 3rd sentences are the most important because they  contain the "Thesis Statement" this statement is the main big idea for the whole article or reading material.
